Lloyd Chapman MNZM in New Year's Honours list 2023

We are delighted to announce that Lloyd Chapman received a MNZM (The New Zealand Order of Merit) in the 2023 New Year’s Honours for his meritorious services to his community and for the preservation of heritage roses.

Lloyd’s infatuation with old roses was in part stimulated by his mother,  Joy Chapman who rescued many of the goldfield roses of Central Otago before the land was flooded to create Lake Dunstan and in part when Lloyd and his wife, author Ann Chapman bought as a retirement project an old villa in Otaki, north of Wellington and he wished to grow age appropriate roses. As the villa came with acres both Chapmans were able to fuel their growing love of the old rose families and build up large collections. This was to become Trinity Farm, a living Rose Museum, which as the then Minister of Conservation, the Honorable  Chris Carter said signaled the Chapmans’ commitment to the conservation and preservation of heritage roses many of which even then had disappeared from commerce.

Thank you Lloyd for the years you have given to preserving New Zealand’s precious heritage of roses and we are so proud that this dedication has been recognised in this way.
